We woke up at 7am to start our day in Riomaggiore. The five of us were staying in one of the apartments at the Bed & Breakfast, and it was pretty nice except it was so cold at night! I don’t think there was any heat. Anyways, we got ready for the day and went to a café to get cappuccinos, then we started our hike through Cinque Terre. We hiked for four hours that morning/day and we hiked from Riomaggiore to Manarola, to Corniglia. There are five town that make up Cinque Terre but we only made it to those other two! We had to take the more difficult hiking trail because there was a lot of flood damage to the main train the connects all the towns, Via del Amore (Walk of Love). We also decided that Cinque Terre is where everyone goes for honeymoons because we saw couple EVERYWHERE and there were a bunch of places with “Amore” in the name. Anyways, we met a lot of people on the trail – a bunch of retired people form all over, people from France, a group of people from Austria that spoke English, people from the U.S. including a group from Boston. Everyone was very chatty and it was cool to talk to them.
We stopped to buy sandwiches in Corniglia before we took the train back to Riomaggiore (we decided not to hike all the way back…). It was around 3:30pm by this time, and we wanted to go kayaking but unfortunately tourist season hadn’t started yet and the kayak places weren’t open yet. So that was a little disappointing but we decided to go spend some more time at the beach. It was so warm at the beach and although we didn’t go swimming this time, it felt so good to just relax on the beach in the sun for a few hours. Later in the day, we went back to get cleaned up and ready for dinner. Before dinner, we watched the sunset over the clif which was beautiful, of course. We then went to Mar Mar for dinner. Laura and I split seafood risotto and then swordfish linquine. It was pretty good but some of the fish scared me a little bit. The whole shrimp in the seafood risotto had huge black eyes and I just couldn’t do it. So Laura ate those. It was good though, some of the seafood was just a little intimidating. After dinner, we went on a hunt for chocolate cake but we couldn’t find it. We ended up at at a gelato place which was pretty small but we realized that they had frappes on the menu! So I got up to the counter and ordered a frappe (I said it like “frap”) but the guy just looked at me, confused. Then I tried again and said “frapp-AYYY” and then he understood. Anyways, after that confusion I got my chocolate hazelnut FRAPPE and it was so so so so so good. Although since it had a straw I finished it in like a minute. So it didn’t last long.
